For over 50 years we have consistently introduced innovative products and presentations to the marketplace, through use of different polymers, machinery and patented packaging. Our products include high density polythene and multi-layer co-extruded films, tamper-resistant and protective packaging to barrier and modified atmosphere films. Additional product innovations include continuous tube and centrefold sheeting, cut bags and sacks to tear-off-on-the-roll gusseted and dip-in-bottom-gusset bags. It is our experience combined with our passion for innovation that sets us apart from other polythene manufacturers in the marketplace.

Investment & Innovation
Since its inception over 50 years ago, Hanmere Polythene has been at the forefront of polythene industry developments in machinery, polymers and additives. This has resulted in our reputation of being market pioneers in polythene production.
We are thoroughly committed to continual and substantial investment, installing the latest equipment at our polythene manufacturing plant in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Our modern production facility is home to 19 state-of-the-art extruders, 8 with multi-layer capability, and conversion equipment. 3 out-of-line six-colour flexographic print presses, and multiple in line single colour presses allow us to print barcodes, batch numbers and bespoke polythene packaging designs to enhance your products and ensure traceability.
Having the latest manufacturing technology at our disposal gives us total production flexibility across all grades of polythene polymer and styles of polythene bags, sacks and films. However, our investment is not limited to production technology, but covers our back-office support tools and SAP based IT systems as well, allowing Hanmere to respond quickly to your requirements at competitive prices.

Food Grade Production
We have developed rigorous controls to ensure that the necessary hygiene levels to enable our polythene products to be used for direct food contact, in accordance with our accreditation from the British Retail Consortium Global Packaging Standard. In addition, to ensure the safety and compliance of our products, we only use virgin food grade polythene polymers and additives which meet European Food Packaging Regulation requirements. No recycled material is used in the production process, including our own production waste, to ensure the food grade state of the final product.
For many of our clients, hygiene is of paramount importance. ‘Tear off on a reel’ presentation for polythene sheets, tubes and bags contributes greatly to ensure that regulations are safely met and wastage is kept to a minimum.
BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 5: 2015)
In addition to our stringent quality assurance processes, we are also committed to the supplying of polythene packaging materials suitable for food contact use. As a result, in April 1999, Hanmere Polythene successfully attained certification from the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health against their certification scheme. This certification has been maintained and Hanmere Polythene is currently certified by NSF Knight against ‘BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 5:2015)’ for the manufacture of products suitable for High Risk applications. The scope of the certification covers:
• ‘The extrusion, flexo printing and conversion of polythene film for the food and other industries.’
