At Hanmere Polythene we provide a one stop service to our customers, thus not only do we extrude our own films in a range of colours, we also print and convert in-house too. Working closely in partnership with your team, we ensure your polythene products are packed and presented so that they arrive at their point of use in the most appropriate manner. Working alongside multinationals to sole traders, we provide polythene products from process line bags, ingredient bags, tray liners, self-seal bags and dolav liners for the food industry, to polythene sacks for the animal feed and building industries.
At the start of our client relationships, we invest our energy and expertise in Hanmere Production Process Audits (HPPA). This in-depth assessment enables us to find the perfect mix of design, materials and technology to meet your exact requirements. Not only that, our dedicated account management team continues to review your usage and applications on a regular basis to ensure that you have a reliable supply of polythene all year round and always receive the most appropriate products for your needs.
Since our formation in 1966, we have been at the forefront of industry developments in polythene polymers and additives. We have been extruding for over 50 years and had significant involvement in the introduction of high density and linear low polymers for industrial film applications. This experience has enabled us to develop a portfolio of ground-breaking products such as Hankraft, Tri-Ex and GS69, plus specialist films such as Hanfoam, Hanbar and Longerlife.
Hankraft has been especially designed for the paper sack market and has excellent strength and puncture resistance. With its low slip surface, Hankraft makes stacking sacks easier and safer plus enhances pallet stability. The outside of each Hankraft sack retains its paper-like appearance and feel on the outside. Inside customers can choose to have a smooth polythene lining, making Hankraft adaptable for many different uses, including those that require easy pouring of contents. The matt or sheen surface is available in a range of colours and Hankraft can be stitched and heat sealed depending on your closing requirements.
Tri-Ex is a versatile three-layer film which is lighter, stronger and smarter than previous polythene solutions. The film is medium to heavy-weight, ideally suited for virtually all packaging applications. Tri-Ex high performance films are designed to protect your products from today’s harsh environments. Tri-Ex is lighter weight than conventional films, which means it costs less to produce and saves you money. Yet, because it is much stronger than traditional films, you benefit from superior product performance.
GS69 is a light to medium weight high performance polythene film which is ideally suited for crate, tray or box liners. The film is designed specifically to protect your products keeping them fresh and clean. GS69 is lightweight and because it is made from less raw material than competitor products, it costs you less, whilst having increased strength in comparison to conventional film.
In addition to our standard portfolio, we have a range of specialist polythene films to suit niche applications, including Hanfoam, Hanbar and Longerlife.
Hanfoam: A non-abrasive, scratch absorbing material with built in strength, which covers the product in one easy application.
Hanbar: An entry level barrier polythene film based solely on co-extruded polyethylene polymers.
Longerlife: A polyethylene based Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) film for food products.
Hanmere’s paper replacement solution draws on all our services as well as our Hankraft film to produce 100% recyclable single material bags and sacks, up to 50% lighter than their paper equivalents. These not only look and feel like a paper sack, but have the same or better performance characteristics of multi-layer, mixed material paper bags and sacks.
In addition to being heat sealed, our paper replacement polythene bags and sacks can be stitched, thus enabling a transition to polythene without the need of initial capital investment. Less than a quarter of the storage space needed for conventional paper sacks is required for our alternative version, reducing both transport and storage costs.
Coloured Films and Printing
With our own on-site colour mixing and printing facility, we can provide a vast array of coloured polythene films and printed polythene products to meet your bespoke requirements.
In their natural form, Tri-Ex and GS69 are clear or translucent, and can be coloured to produce bags, sacks, tubes and sheets with colour densities from tinted to opaque. Hankraft being naturally opaque white can be coloured to produce bags, sacks, tubes and sheets in a range of pastel shades with densities from a hint to full colour. Due to their multi-layer structures, Hankraft and Tri-Ex can also be produced in dual colours. Typical colour combinations are white outers to take print and blue inners for the food industry or black inners for horticultural use.
From simple single and two-colour random images on our in-line presses to high quality six colour registered printing on our out of line flexographic presses, we have in-house facilities to ensure your products get noticed. If you are unsure of your print design, we can take care of it for you, providing a one stop shop from concept to finished polythene product.
Hanmere Polythene manufactures and prints one of the widest ranges of polythene in the UK, and as part of our one stop solution, we convert in-house and in most cases in-line too. Available conversions include:

M&S Compliant Films
For manufacturers in the Marks and Spencer food supply chain it is important that process bags and transit packaging they use meet the requirements laid down in Marks and Spencer’s guidelines. and Marks and Spencer identify Hanmere Polythene as supplier of polythene bags and films that comply with these guidelines.
Through continuing development of our blends Hanmere has reduced the minimum compliant thickness of it films from the initial 45µm down to 30µm, thus giving customers significant potential savings where such light films are appropriate.

In addition to being able to print customer supplied barcodes on products and pack labels, Hanmere Polythene is a member of GS1 UK and thus where no Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is supplied we apply one from our own number bank enabling us to supplement our human readable pack and shipping labels with machine-readable information.
Unique to each pallet of goods our machine-readable shipping labels enable individual pallets to be automatically tracked through logistics networks and to be received, tracked and issued within automated warehousing environments with minimal human intervention.
